Watch Description

Inspired by the maison's iconic Cintrée, this Tank's case and chapter ring are both beautifully curved. In fact, it was Cartier's first curved waterproof case. The thick brandcards and octagonal sapphire crown gives this petite watch some heft while maintaining its grace on the wrist. The dial has a silver / cream hue with a grainy texture for that extra sprinkle of detail.

It was a right move to pair this watch with a high quality quartz movement. For one, it keeps things practical for those with lots of mechnical watches in rotation. And with only a minute and hour hand, you won't have a ticking seconds hand to remind you quartz is there in the first place.

A.I. Watch Review:

# Cartier Tank Americaine Gold 1710 Review by A.I. WatchMetrics

## Watch Summary
The Cartier Tank Américaine ref. 1710 is an iconic Art Deco dress watch with a rectangular 18k yellow gold case measuring 34mm in length by 22mm height, featuring a silvered dial with black Roman numerals, blued sword hands, and a reliable quartz movement (Caliber 057 MC) offering exceptional accuracy and minimal maintenance without a traditional power reserve. Its timeless, slim profile and sapphire cabochon crown appeal to sophisticated professionals, vintage enthusiasts, and collectors valuing understated luxury over sporty utility, with the legendary Tank design—originally sketched in 1917—instantly recognizable for its jewelry-like elegance.

## Overall Watch Rating: 6.6/10.0

**Dials & Design Metric (9.7/10.0)** - The exquisite rectangular case, guilloché dial, and Roman numerals capture Art Deco perfection, rivaling the refined aesthetics of a Patek Philippe Calatrava.

**Cohesiveness Metric (9.5/10.0)** - This single-piece icon flawlessly unites Cartier's jewelry heritage with watchmaking, standing alone as a cohesive statement like a standalone Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

**Material Metric (9.3/10.0)** - Sumptuous 18k yellow gold construction paired with sapphire crystal delivers opulent tactility comparable to Vacheron Constantin's gold dress watches.

**Brand Metric (8.8/10.0)** - Cartier's century-plus legacy in luxury jewelry and horology earns elite status alongside Omega and Grand Seiko for premium craftsmanship.

**History & Innovation Metric (8.2/10.0)** - Born from the historic 1917 Tank design with wartime inspiration, it boasts deep cultural resonance despite quartz simplicity, akin to the enduring appeal of the original Rolex Oyster.

**Versatility Metric (7.5/10.0)** - Ideal for formal and office wear with its slim profile, but 30m water resistance limits it versus the all-scene adaptability of a Tudor Black Bay.

**Rarity Metric (6.8/10.0)** - Gold execution and discontinued status provide moderate scarcity on secondary markets, less exclusive than a limited-run F.P. Journe but scarcer than mass-produced Seikos.

**Movement Metric (4.4/10.0)** - Quartz reliability ensures precision with rare servicing needs, but lacks the mechanical artistry of an ETA 2824 in a Hamilton Khaki.

**Functions Metric (1.5/10.0)** - Mere hours and minutes suffice for dress duties, trailing the multifunction utility of an Omega Seamaster with date window.

**Complications Metric (0.2/10.0)** - Pure time-only purity offers no extras, far from the mechanical wizardry in a complication-packed Breguet Classique.

## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0

## WM Collector Grade: C

## Performance Insights: Strong design, materials, brand prestige, and historical cachet shine through, but weak movement, functions, and complications drag value relative to its $6000 secondary market price.

## TPS Interpretation: Average Value: Iconic gold styling and reliability at a fair but unremarkable price point for quartz luxury.
